| Our course programme has been designed with elements of the very best philosophies and
techniques in baby swimming. The emphasis placed on water-safety techniques seen in Australian and American formal baby
swimming programmes is combined with the instinctive and nurturing real-life water skills passed on from parent to child in the
Amazon. Francoise Freedman, the founding member of the educational trust Birthlight, spent many years

 |
in the Amazon where she
observed the water-confidence, vital self-preservation skills and sheer enjoyment of water passed from generation to generation.
Birthlight’s techniques embrace the Amazonians’ love and respect of the water, and are used to great advantage in ’
programme. At we believe in encouraging your child to enjoy the freedom of the water, whilst knowing that your
support is always at hand.
|
Incorporating these techniques, you will be encouraged to hold your child in certain ways which ultimately will give them the
confidence to break away from your arms, initially with the support of foam woggles or other floating devices progressing to no
support at all. From the very start of your classes you will find that rhythm, movement, songs and games are an integral part
of teaching the enjoyment of water.
|
 |
Submersion plays an important part in our classes, as you will find that your baby loves to be under the water. However, this
element will never be forced and you will be shown how to recognise when your baby is happy to swim underwater, and when they
would rather do something else. A key element of the programme is developing the trust between you and your child so that all
activities are enjoyed at the right time for both of you.
